Round 5: Horsepower Heaven – Multispares Event Recap
After the last round at Sydney Motorsport Park, where Ryan won the round, the team has been busy building a new engine. After winning Race 1 and Race 2, Ryan was also leading Race 3 when he lost power steering early in the race. What Ryan didn’t realise was that the power steering issue also affected the water pump belt. He had been dealing with a faulty sensor all weekend, so he ignored the warning (like the boy who cried wolf). Although he finished 3rd, the engine overheated. Once they got home, the engine was removed and sent to the builder, and the news was not good: everything except the crank, camshafts, and titanium valves was damaged.
The replacement engine is now finished and was taken to the dyno on Saturday. On Monday, the Torana will be loaded into the PBR transporter and sent to Sandown.
Sandown is Round 5 of the 2024 season. Ryan is currently leading the Pro Master class and is 3rd overall.
Since joining the TCM series, Sandown is one track where Ryan has only scored a win in the wet. The last time TCM raced there in 2022, Ryan had an impressive drive in the wet race 3, coming through the field from the middle of the pack. While Sandown is known as “Horsepower Heaven” and typically favours the 6-litre cars, the team has recently made some small improvements in power and braking, which should help Ryan get closer to the front.
