MAN Enters the New Zealand 8×4 market

The first MAN TGX 35.640 rigid has been delivered to Spencer Logistics in Wellington. This marks Penske New Zealand’s entry into the 600-plus horsepower 8×4 market.

Spencer Logistics, already a MAN customer needed an 8×4 configuration to minimise their road user charges that existed under New Zealand’s unique road taxation system. They were also looking for a unit with a much higher horsepower output so that they could run under higher productivity conditions.

Working closely with MAN, Penske New Zealand along with local transport engineers are now able to offer customers the capabilities of an 8×4 product with a 640 horsepower engine and 3,000Nm of torque. This new configuration is perfect for fitting in with New Zealand’s unique regulatory environment

Brent Warner who is Penske New Zealand’s North Island truck sales and Tauranga branch manager stated *This is the first TGX 640hp 8×4 in the world, so significant engineering development work has been undertaken in conjunction with MAN in Germany. *

MAN and Penske New Zealand have worked exceptionally closely together ensuring that they are offering a product that can meet both MAN’s and the New Zealand Transport Agency’s stringent requirements while still being able to keep MAN’s class-leading safety functions. New Zealand is an 8×4 market, so having an 8×4 that offers over 640 horsepower is adding to the range of MAN’s customer solutions.

MAN had found the *hole in the ladder* and saw this opportunity within the market, and they are incredibly pleased and excited to be able to provide a product to customers who will continue to receive all the safety features, efficiency and performance they have come to expect and appreciate from the MAN product.

If you want flexibility like you have never seen before the new MAN TGS comes in a range of high torque engines, wheelbases, drivelines, chassis and prime mover configurations that will meet your exact transportation needs. There’s a reason that MAN aftermarket truck parts are in high demand. The new ergonomically designed cabs focus on the driver and combine safety with functionality, from a user-friendly instrument and drivers’ seat with a range of adjustment options to the multi-function steering wheel packed with integrated controls. All of this has been combined to create a workspace for the driver that reduces stress while maximising productivity. With a built-in crumple zone, EBS and ABS MAN deliver a class-leading truck that has been built for safety.
